Secret to Happiness: Can Money Buy it?

Were your parent’s right when they said, “Money can’t buy you happiness?” We all know the reason for going to college these days is to get a better paying job and make more money. When you are young let’s face it having a better paying job and make lots of money sound really exciting. With a job like that I can buy a big house, nice cars, take trips and live the good life.

Sounds like the right thing to do, but is it. Let’s take look. Having the large income is exciting for the first few years living the good life and associating with other people in large income bracket. The thrill can wear off when everyone starts competing with you on all those material things. It isn’t about who you are anymore, but what you own. True friends are hard to fine let’s face it.

Studies do show that six months after winning a large lottery prize, even with the millions of dollars people reported being not as happy as they were before winning. Happy people like spending time with family and friends. They enjoy each other rather than the things that money can buy. Happy people are doing what they love to do for a living regardless of the money it can make them. Yes, they have to have money to put a roof over their head and food in their mouth, but they don’t need all the social thrills for that happiness.

The moral of the story is, “When you are tempted to go to college and study for a career or take a job only because the pay is great and you can have a those material THINGS and no other reason you might want to rethink your plans.”

People are what bring happiness. They will love you back; material things will just steal your energy from you trying to accumulate more to impress the people that don’t really care.

Life is short, so take note of where are priorities lie, time is something that you can’t get back!
